Limits of BMI
BMI is a quick screening tool used by Health Canada and the World Health Organization, but it does not measure body fat directly. Muscular people can have a high BMI while being healthy, and older adults can have a normal BMI with low muscle mass. Waist circumference and a conversation with a health professional give a fuller picture. BMI categories are not meant for children, teens or pregnant women.
